ntroducing the latest sweet to grace the Sela range! We threw down the challenge to Year 6 of St. Chad's Primary School in Lichfield to "design a new sweet" as a business project. After much serious market research and feasibility studies, they have come up with a novel product concept and catchy name - Strawberry Surprise! It is a strawberry flavour sweet with a surprise orange flavour centre. Our initial scepticism was soon dispelled once we produced the first trial batch and were able to see for ourselves what a tasty and unique sweet the children had concocted. So impressed were we that we have decided to add the product to our range! As you can see, the children have even designed the labelling, complete with its own surprised strawberry!

A Tasty Profit!
This project has provided a unique opportunity to the children to apply their learning to a real life situation, and see tangible results from their efforts, and as such has yielded many educational benefits, As a business, we have gained valuable insight into consumer trends amongst the younger generation. It is an excellent example of how business and education can cooperate well together and enjoy mutual benefits. In recognition of the efforts of the children, as an additional bonus to this project we have agreed to donate a proportion of the profits on sales of the product to the school fund. Staffordshire schools suffer from one of the worst funding per pupil ratios in the UK, and so any additional funds thus generated will be most welcome.

Media Stars!

This project has certainly caught the imagination of the media, with appearances in local and national newspapers, radio and television. The pick of these was a great feature on the children's news programme on national BBC TV, "Newsround"

The photo to the left shows some of the children with Dr. Carl Chinn at the BBC Pebble Mill studios, who invited them on to his afternoon show on BBC Radio WM to talk about their new sweet invention.

So go on... Try this tasty, novel new product, and at the same time support education! It is available in units of 2.5kg weigh-out jar, 12 x 100g pre-packs, or 20 x 150g glass jars.
