Helps to Put Some "Bounce" into BBC Local Radio!
| |

 |
Malcolm
Boyden has to be one of the most colourful characters
on local radio in the Midlands, if not the UK. The chirpy
Black Country presenter, winner of the 1997 Sony Gold
Award for Best Radio Personality, fills the mid-morning
"pair of hours" (lunchtime), as he calls it,
on BBC Radio WM with his unique brand of humour, chat
and entertainment. Most of his show is spent chatting
to people calling in by telephone, and Malcolm likes to
give out prizes to many of his callers. As an ardent "Baggies"
(West Bromwich Albion FC) fan, he has also become known
as "Boing Boing" Boyden (after the famous WBA
fans' chant), and as a result has developed a range of
prizes under the Boing Boing "brand".
These have included Boing Boing Fridge Magnets
and Boing Boing Brew. However, when Malcolm came up with the
idea of a packet of sweets for a prize, he called his friends at
Sela for help. Together, we came up with "Boing Boing Bon Bons",
which were a mint striped with the colours of West Bromwich
Albion's home and away kits! The most recent addition to the
Boing Boing product range has been Boing Boing Ball Drops, so
called after one of Malcolm's favourite sayings - "I've dropped
a ball there!". These are ball-shaped mints, again blue and
white to match the Baggies' colours! |
Sela Boss Sees Stars in His
Eyes! |
 |
James Roberts, the fifth generation Managing Director of
Sela, has become quite a regular guest on Malcolm Boyden's BBC
Radio WM shows. Left, you can see him in Malcolm's "pad" at the
latest occasion that he was invited in - he was personally
delivering an emergency supply of Malcolm's famous Ball Drops,
which had actually run out due to popular demand!
|
|
However, there was a big surprise in for James as he
left the studio after the interview - sitting in the waiting area
was the next guest to grace Malcolm's show, Mr "Stars in Their
Eyes" himself, Matthew Kelly! As he had his digital camera with
him, he seized the opportunity to have his picture taken with the
TV
star. To the right you can see him posing with a packet
sweets James gave to Matthew - these are Sela's novel
sweet invention to celebrate the Millennium: Millenni
Hum Bugs! We do hope Matthew enjoyed these minty devils!
